Millboard decking and cladding has made its feature in a home shown on the Channel 4 programme ‘George Clarke’s Remarkable Renovations’.
What was once a beautiful but derelict former glass factory in Brighton, the building was used to manufacture windows for Brighton’s Grand Terrace, self builder James had visions of making something of the old building for twenty years, attracted by the old and industrial feel of the building.
After finally purchasing the building, James was determined to make it into a home with one goal in mind – to retain as many of the original features as much as possible.
Each feature that could be salvaged was painstakingly repaired or repurposed to keep true to the buildings industrial style. even going to drastic lengths such as lowering the ceiling in one piece and restoring each piece of flint for the exterior façade.
These elements have then been coupled with modern fixtures and fittings, to provide modern living with a feeling of luxury.
Millboard was a real win-win for a seafront terrace with some extreme weather!
The home also features a beautiful terrace area, which James opted for Envello Shadow Line in Antique Oak to clad either end of the balcony terrace, with Antique Oak Enhanced Grain decking boards to complement.
James explains about why he chose Millboard decking and cladding for this unique project: “Aesthetically it’s a perfect replica of wood, with the patina and tone variations of the real material yet with the durability of something synthetic. So a real win-win for a seafront terrace with some extreme weather!
The complete system also made the job of building the deck, subframe, cladding and doors much faster and also much neater. Rather than sourcing a mix of products from different manufacturers with an inconsistent finish, we were able to build a complete, end to end environment that became a stand-out feature for the property.”
The beautiful colours and shades of Antique Oak complement the industrial vibe of the property, and the wood-look boards work in harmony with the rustic charm of the restored materials within the home.
The end result is a stunning conversion; from an old, abandoned factory to a luxurious four-bedroom, five bathroom home full of character.
