Making Millboard.com Accessible to All

Our Commitment to WCAG 2.2 Level AA Compliance

At Millboard, our mission is to help people Live. Life. Outside.

We design, innovate and manufacturer products renowned for their aesthetics and durability. We also provide expert technical insight and thoughtful customer service; which we are pleased to be taking to a new, inclusive, level. We’re proud to announce that www.millboard.com is now WCAG 2.2 Level AA compliant and we’re launching it to coincide with Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD), a day that champions digital access for all reaffirming our commitment to an inclusive online experience for everyone.

Held annually, GAAD is a worldwide initiative that shines a light on digital access and inclusion for the more than one billion people worldwide living with disabilities. We see this as the perfect opportunity to spotlight not only the technical progress we’ve made, but also the values that guide us.

What is WCAG?

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) are the global gold standard for digital accessibility. Developed by the W3C, they outline how websites should be designed and built to ensure people with disabilities including those with visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive challenges can access and interact with online content effectively.
The latest version, WCAG 2.2, introduces enhanced requirements, such as:
More robust keyboard navigation

Clearer focus indicators for interactive elements

Larger tap targets for touch-based devices

Better support for users with cognitive and learning difficulties

Level AA compliance, the tier we’ve reached strikes the right balance between strict accessibility and practical implementation for public websites.

Why This Matters: The EU Accessibility Act

Later this year, the European Accessibility Act (EAA) will come into force, requiring businesses that sell or operate across the EU and UK to make digital services accessible to all. This landmark legislation represents a shift towards a more equitable online environment, ensuring that people with disabilities are not excluded from e-commerce, communication tools, and other digital services.

Achieving WCAG 2.2 Level AA compliance now means Millboard is not only ahead of the curve we’re prepared to meet these upcoming legal requirements with confidence, integrity, and care.

Behind the Scenes: A Thoughtful Transformation

Making a complex website fully accessible is about more than technical updates; it’s about thoughtful design, inclusive thinking, and meaningful change. This latest evolution of our site reflects that ongoing commitment – our digital and development teams undertook a site-wide transformation to:

Audit every page against accessibility benchmarks

Increase contrast ratios and improve typography for better readability

Enable screen reader compatibility and semantic HTML

Redesign UI components for keyboard and touch navigation

Add appropriate ARIA labels for better structure and understanding
Ensure consistency across desktop, tablet, and mobile experiences

The result is a site that’s more intuitive, inclusive, and usable for everyone.

Launching on Global Accessibility Awareness Day

We chose to launch our newly accessible website on Global Accessibility Awareness Day as a way to recognise the importance of inclusive design and to align ourselves with the values behind GAAD. Marked each year on the third Thursday in May, GAAD calls attention to digital access and inclusion for more than one billion people worldwide who live with disabilities or impairments.

For us, it is a reminder that digital access should be universal, a core requirement rather than an optional extra. GAAD encourages everyone involved in creating online experiences to step back and think about how people actually use technology, whether that is navigating purely by keyboard, using a screen reader or relying on clear visual contrast and simple language.

By tying our launch to this day, we are making a public commitment to keep accessibility on the agenda long after the headlines move on. It signals to our designers, developers, marketers and business leaders that accessibility is a shared responsibility and that every new feature or piece of content on Millboard.com should be shaped with empathy, care and real-world users in mind.

Our Ongoing Commitment

This update is a step forward, not a finish line. Accessibility is something we have to keep working at, so we are committed to reviewing Millboard.com regularly, listening to feedback and keeping pace with changing standards and good practice in digital inclusion.

Throughout 2026, we have a roadmap of new features planned to make it easier for more people to use and enjoy our site and our products. This includes clearer page structures and navigation, improved support for keyboard and assistive technologies, better labelling on interactive elements, and more accessible formats for product information, guides and advice.

At Millboard, we do not only help people enjoy life outside in beautifully designed spaces, we also want every digital touchpoint to feel just as considered. Whether you are browsing on a mobile, comparing products with an architect, or reading installation guidance as a homeowner, our aim is that every interaction with Millboard reflects the same standard of premium quality, care and inclusivity that you expect from our physical products.
