Why British-Made Matters - The case for specifying millboard decking & Cladding

why origin matters more than ever

When planning a decking or cladding project, the country of origin of your chosen product may not be the first thing on your mind. But in today’s climate, it deserves serious consideration. Supply chain pressures, global shipping disruptions, and an increasingly unpredictable geopolitical landscape have changed the way many architects, contractors, specifiers, and homeowners think about procurement. Choosing a product manufactured here in the UK is no longer just a point of pride; it’s a practical, forward-thinking decision.

Millboard decking and cladding are proudly designed and manufactured in the United Kingdom, at our Warwickshire manufacturing plant. Here’s why that matters for your project.

REliable supply when you need it

One of the most significant advantages of specifying a UK-manufactured product is the reliability of supply. Products shipped from overseas can be subject to factors entirely outside your control: port delays, freight congestion, customs complications, and the broader uncertainty of international trade. Lead times that once seemed predictable can stretch considerably, and for a project running to a tight programme, that can cause real problems.

Millboard products are held in substantial stock in the UK and can typically be ordered and delivered within a matter of days to locations across the country. Whether you’re a specifier planning a large commercial scheme, a contractor managing a busy installation schedule, or a homeowner working towards a project deadline, that responsiveness makes a genuine difference.

There’s also the question of sequencing. Ordering products far in advance to guard against potential delays means materials sitting on site longer than necessary, exposed to the risk of damage from plant or other trades, or even theft. With Millboard, you can order closer to the time you need it, and if additional product is required during the project, it’s readily available. There’s no need to over-order and store excess stock; you can simply top up as required.

“It’s manufactured less than 30 miles away, it’s delivered within 48 hours, it just works perfectly for us. We haven’t got materials hanging around on site, we get it when we need it, at the quantities we need.”

Made in britain to exacting standards

Millboard decking and cladding are manufactured at our Warwickshire facility to rigorous quality standards. Every board benefits from close oversight and consistency, from the composition of the materials through to the finished surface detail.

Millboard products are made from a unique resin mineral blend (including approximately one third recycled mineral stone content). Each board is individually hand-moulded and hand-coloured, a process that creates the depth, variation, and authenticity that sets Millboard decking and cladding apart from conventional composite products. This is quality craftsmanship, and it takes place here in the UK under a single roof, giving us full control over quality at every stage – reflected in our ISO accreditations:

ISO 9001 – Quality management. Demonstrates that a business has consistent processes in place to meet customer requirements and maintain product quality.

ISO 14001 – Environmental management. Shows commitment to minimising environmental impact, managing waste, and continuously improving environmental performance.

ISO 45001 – Occupational health and safety. Covers workplace safety management, reducing risks to employees and others affected by business operations.

Our manufacturing facility is powered by renewable electricity, reflecting our commitment not only to product quality but to responsible production.

Supporting the british economy

Purchasing British-made products has a wider benefit that goes beyond any individual project. Millboard is a British business, employing British people and contributing to the local Warwickshire economy and the wider UK manufacturing sector. Every specification of Millboard decking and cladding supports skilled jobs and domestic industry at a time when that matters more than ever.

In a world where the sourcing of materials is increasingly scrutinised by clients, planning authorities, and sustainability frameworks, being able to say that your decking or cladding was manufactured in Britain carries real weight.

WARRANTY And after-sales support, rooted in the uk

Confidence in a product should extend well beyond installation. Millboard decking is backed by a 25-year limited structural warranty for residential applications and a 10-year limited structural warranty for commercial use. Millboard Envello cladding carries a 15-year limited structural warranty. These are strong, substantive commitments, and they are UK-backed.

Our customer service and technical teams are based here in the UK, available to support you before your project begins, during the specification and installation process, and after completion. Whether you have a technical query, need product guidance, or want advice on a specific installation detail, you’re speaking to people who know the product, understand UK construction practices, and are accessible in your time zone without the complications of international communication.

That continuity of support, from first enquiry through to long after the project is complete, is an important part of what makes Millboard products a dependable choice.

A Practical choice for an uncertain world

Global supply chains are under more pressure than at any point in recent memory. Geopolitical uncertainty, shipping disruption, and rising freight costs have all made the logistics of importing construction materials more complicated and more expensive. While this may not affect every project immediately, the risk is real and it is one that can be reduced by specifying products made closer to home.

For specifiers, contractors, and discerning homeowners alike, Millboard products offer a straightforward alternative: a premium-quality decking and cladding solution, manufactured in Britain, readily available, and supported by a dedicated UK-based team.

Behind the product is a family-owned British business with over 50 years of industry experience, united by a genuine passion for helping people live life outside. When the world feels less predictable, it makes sense to build with products you can depend on, from a business that genuinely cares about what it makes and why.
