Millboard Envello Shadow Line+ Cladding at La Vigne Residential Development

Set within the gentle rise and fall of St Peter Port’s landscape, La Vigne brings together contemporary architecture, thoughtful placemaking and a commitment to long-term quality. Designed by DLM Architects and delivered for the Infinity Group, the development comprises 13 new homes – five detached houses and eight carefully arranged apartments – each shaped around the needs of modern residents in Guernsey.

Every dwelling has its own character

The scheme is united by a calm, cohesive aesthetic. Central to that look is the use of Millboard’s Shadow Line+ Cladding in Antique Oak, which helps ground the architecture in its coastal surroundings while offering the durability and low-maintenance performance required for exposed island conditions.

Designing for a Distinctive Location

St Peter Port’s terrain comes with its own demands. La Vigne occupies a sloping site where the challenge was not only technical but creative: to ensure every home made the most of the setting without disrupting the landscape that makes it so desirable.

DLM Architects responded with a composition that steps naturally with the land. Rooflines, facades, and internal layouts were carefully considered to optimise outlooks while maintaining privacy between properties. Daylight, ventilation and circulation were all mapped around the site’s gradients, resulting in homes that feel settled and intuitive rather than engineered into place.

A hybrid construction approach combining cavity wall construction with timber frame elements proved key. This method delivered the structural robustness needed for the coastal environment while achieving high thermal performance and predictable build efficiency. It also allowed for precise detailing around the cladding zones to maintain a sharp, modern finish.

Meeting Technical and Aesthetic Demands

From the outset, the project team was clear that the materials chosen needed to contribute to both performance and longevity. With exposed elevations and year-round coastal weathering to consider, traditional timber would have required regular upkeep to maintain appearance. The design ambition was for a façade solution that would retain its clean lines and contemporary character without continuous treatment.

This led to the specification of Millboard Envello Shadow Line+ Cladding at La Vigne in Antique Oak across key elevations. The profile’s refined shadow gap and smooth, consistent alignment complemented the architect’s minimal, modern aesthetic, while the Antique Oak tone introduced warmth without visual heaviness.

To complete the installation, the team incorporated a full suite of Millboard accessories, including:

  • External Cladding Corners for a crisp, architectural edge
  • Fascia Boards to unify junctions and maintain a seamless visual language
  • Horizontal Starter Trims for reliable alignment at the base
  • Perforated Closers to assist airflow while keeping insects out

These components ensured accuracy at every transition and delivered a façade that feels coherent and confident from every angle.

Crucially for the client, the cladding provides long-lasting colour stability and requires minimal maintenance, an important consideration for both homeowners and the estate’s long-term stewardship.

Homes Designed for Life

Beyond architecture, La Vigne reflects a wider ambition: to create a place where residents can live comfortably throughout different life stages. Each dwelling was designed to accommodate varied lifestyles, from growing families to those seeking accessible, future-proof homes. Layouts, circulation routes and internal specifications were all developed with usability at the forefront.

This focus on liveability extends into the shared spaces. Over 50 new trees and lush, integrated planting contribute to a sheltered, green character as residents move through the site. Communal garden areas bring neighbours together while supporting local biodiversity, and the planting strategy has been developed to thrive in the island climate without demanding excessive maintenance.

Permeable paving supports sustainable water management, and energy-efficient fixtures reduce long-term running costs across the development, reflecting a design ethos where environmental impact and resident wellbeing sit side by side.

Environmental Responsibility as Standard

Sustainability was embedded throughout the project. The combination of timber frame construction, high-performance materials and careful orientation contributed to reduced operational energy use. The decision to specify Millboard’s resin mineral cladding – manufactured using a unique process and designed for longevity – further aligned with the development’s emphasis on low-maintenance building fabric.

This long-term view guides the whole project: efficient homes, materials chosen to maintain their appearance for many years without frequent renewal, and landscapes intended to develop naturally rather than rely on continual upkeep.

A Confident, Contemporary Addition to St Peter Port

La Vigne has been carefully shaped to suit its location and the people who will call it home. The architecture feels grounded without being restrained, modern without being stark, and expressive without overwhelming the surrounding streetscape. Its success lies in the small decisions – the alignment of cladding boards, the pattern of rooflines, the planting that softens the approach, and the use of materials chosen to endure.

Millboard’s Shadow Line+ Cladding in Antique Oak played a key part in achieving the project’s design intent, offering a refined, modern surface that enhances the development’s character while supporting the wider goals of durability and long-term value.

La Vigne shows how good design, collaborative thinking and considered material choices create places that feel both contemporary and timeless; homes made to be lived in, not just looked at.
