Millboard to feature at Grand Designs Live

Channel 4’s long-running fan favourite, Grand Designs, exclusively features the most prestigious builds in the UK. The live exhibition hosted by the programme takes place in Birmingham each year, and we always jump at the opportunity to showcase our projects in such illustrious company. At the most recent event, we displayed the results of a showstopping renovation on Cornwall’s beautiful Roseland Peninsula.

Quay House is a bespoke luxury waterside residence, designed by Lillie Lewarne Architects and built by P Chapman Construction. Packed with special features, the property is situated in a commanding position, at the head of sharp curve in the River Percuil. The build took place in a clearing of densely wooded banks that descend steeply to a ledge nestled into the hard rock of the hill. This ledge leads to a granite quay, overlooking the water.

The architects used large format glazing and Millboard decking to connect the internal spaces to the multi-level outdoor areas, which include water features, a swimming pool and a rustic firepit. The architects selected materials to tie into the existing natural and built environments, and also for their eco credentials.
An existing property on the land was too small for the new owner’s needs, and they sought to expand the residence to house four new bedrooms and an open plan living space with luxury finishes. Lillie Lewarne Architects created a high-spec house that responded to the challenging topography by partially submerging the lower ground floor into the ground, and by following the curves of the land with the upper floor.

By opting to use Millboard’s Enhanced Grain in Smoked Oak, the construction achieves the ambitions of the architects and the homeowners. It is now a flagship property of the village, and the elevated terraces are both eye-catching and sympathetic to their surroundings.
Millboard decking is extremely well suited to marine environments as it is rot and slip-resistant, so the owners of Quay House can look forward to enjoying their immaculate decks for years to come.
