There is no denying that the current pandemic has changed the world and altered how we live our lives, most probably forever. Now, with restrictions gently easing for the time being, many of us can finally turn our minds to booking a much-deserved getaway but, like most things in our lives, even our holiday habits have not been left unscathed by COVID-19.
The typical trend for visiting large cities packed full of tourists have dominated the travel industry for decades. Now, thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, these trips are now being replaced with slower-paced getaways that are closer to nature and socially distanced, according to Susie Ellis, CEO of the Global Wellness Institute.
In fact, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) declared shifts in personal behaviour and corporate attitudes could mean that the UK, post-lockdown, will value and interact with nature on a much greater scale than before the pandemic.
It is then of no surprise that hideaways, log cabins and treehouses are currently the ‘most wish-listed’ holiday destination on popular stays and experience marketplace Airbnb. It’s easy to see why.
Amidst the global pandemic, these destinations give a sense of seclusion, being at one with nature and a calming retreat coupled with a magical fairy-tale feel, as people crave an escape from reality, to simply relax, recharge and watch the world go by.

A perfect example is Shorefield Holidays, which boast of truly unique retreats in a woodland setting. Their brand-new treehouses offer visitors to soak up the surrounding views from the outdoor hot tub, escape the everyday and get lost in nature and unwind on a treehouse holiday – just what we all need!
We recently worked with Shorefield Holidays to provide Weathered Oak Embered decking boards for their treehouse, including walkways and outside areas. Perfectly replicating natural timber, the Millboard decking boards are certainly at home in the woodland surroundings, and the minimal maintenance involved means the decking will look great for years to come.

The finished treehouses – complete with Millboard decking walkways – look fabulous and are already receiving raving reviews from guests.
